If there are no family or friends in the area to assume responsibility of them?

By Pets I mean dogs, cats etc, not just fish/hutched animals.

That’s a tough question. In an emergency, and you had to go to the hospital ASAP, maybe, a neighbor you could trust, to come over and feed the animals for you, you could offer some money for doing it too. I know MY neighbor would do it for me, BUT, you should think about a situation happening to you BEFORE hand, and make those arrangement now! There has to be some teenager or college student who would be happy to do it for you. Also, God forbid, you die while in the hospital. Make a will, and have one of the Pet Rescue places come and pick them up.

Starting school in a new city, and I have a bunch of Pets to take with me to my new flat. It’s a 6 hour drive, two cats, 3 turtles, a fish, and a porcupine. How do I transport them all. I especially want to know how to transport my fish without killing him. Should I get a moving van, because I’ll have other stuff to take too.

Don’t put the animals themselves in the moving van, just furniture.

For the fish and turtles, you’re going to need to drain some of the water with a siphon until it’s manageable to carry and so that it won’t slosh over during the ride. It’s a good idea to keep some of the dirty water in a covered bucket so that a large water change won’t shock them.

I suggest moving all of the animals last so that you know where they need to go. I’d personally transport the fish, turtles, and porcupine together (provided it’s caged), then the cats during another trip so that they aren’t under your feet when bringing the tanks inside. If you take them all in one trip, then let the cats out after everything is settled!

To transport the cats, I would put them in a big dog crate big enough for a litter box, feeding, and sleeping area. Then they should be fine for the 6 hour ride, maybe halfway through you could leash them if they like that, and let them walk around a bit outside.

Main question pretty much says it all, just curious what the rules and regs are for personal Pets while in canadian forces.

why don’t you contact them and ask them?

I think its wrong for people to buy pets that dont belong in a Home. So what do you think?

There’s also the morons that use vicious animals for fighting and illegal gambling. For example, pit bull terriers are illegal in Dade County in Florida (Miami, Ft Lauderdale) but are sold on the black market so they can fight the dogs.

The apartment I am looking into allows pets, but they charge outrageous deposits and extra rent per month. I have two cats. I am wondering if when I sign the lease I say I don’t have Pets to avoid paying the deposit and extra rent. It’s an apartment complex run by a corporation so the only people coming into my apartment will be maintenance and how are they supposed to know I said I don’t have pets on my lease? Will this work? Anyone get away with it before?

It’s better to come clean and pay the deposit and higher rent. You will sleep better at night knowing you’re doing the right thing. As long as your cats don’t wreck the apartment, you should get your deposit back. Also, if you look into other apartments that don’t charge the higher rent, they probably are not as nice because they don’t care. Good luck!

We rarely go on vacation but this year we are planning a trip to Europe for a month. Have a dog and two cats. We are new to this town and don’t really know anyone. What would be the best thing to do with our pets? If you know the name of a website etc. please include that as well. Thank you very much for any help.

I would ask a local Vet if they knew of a service in the area. Would not leave them in a Vets clinic though, they are left alone too much anc caged. Best scenario is to find leave the pets in their Home and have someone come there. But make sure you put valuables in a bank deposit box for peace of mind. My neighbor hired two local people to make sure that they were taken care of incase one "forgot." How about talking to co-workers to see if they know of a responsible teen that can do it for you?

Good Luck

well i have always had 2 dogs. no matter what
we have had the ones that we have now for 11 years now
I have a beagle mix who is sweet as can be named Lacey
i also have a chocolate lab named Quincey =)
i use to have a ton of barn cats,

my pigs =) are my world ( and no they do not live in mudd, outside and they are not fat)
i sleep with them in the pen and play with them and feed them marshmellows and they love drinking pop out if cans ..
in 2009 their names were ( muzzle loader, gunner, brandi, anna, sweat pea, shimmer, BILLY, blackmail, sky, bruiser, nelly, sammy and many more that i am too lazy to write)

you may not know what i am talking about .. but you said that you would like to know what other peoples have for pets and how many …
so i thought i would tell you

my cat is inside .. dogs outside..
my dogs have never been on a leash or chain..they are free to go where they want and do what they want. they sleep in our barn witch is heated during the winter ..

What is the best brand out there of microchip IDs for Pets?
I’d love to hear peoples’ experiences – good or bad – with the various brands of microchip IDs for pets. I’m looking at Avid, 24 Hour Pet Watch, Home Again and Trovan for use in a new animal shelter.

I would say Avid. And they are sure to work with all AVID scanners. Every vet has or should have an avid scanner. They are fast and can get you pet back fast.

I don’t want to use frontline or advantage because it is very expensive and I don’t like using the chemicals on my pets. two lap dogs and one retriever.

I have heard of garlic powder sprinkled on your pets Food. But how much? And I heard pros and cons about using garlic,some good,some not good.

I have also heard of giving your pet Brewer’s Yeast tablets that it works. Where do I get these brewers yeast tablets for pets?

Has anyone used brewers yeast tablets?

Does anyone make their own spray with essential oil’s?

Thanks for your help.

you can get some pill from your vet. They are based on weight of the pet. They kill ALL bugs within 24 hours. They work I have a cat and 3 dogs inside and they go out too. You have to treat you home as well. Flea bombs with everyone and all pets outside . You should also put a new flea collar into your vaccum bag regularly. the vaccum picks up the eggs but the next time you turn it on the vibration makes them hatch in your vaccum bag! So they are being spread over and over. Not sure what else to try. I use advantage plus. it is really safe and they have to be clean and dry when you apply it. Best of luck!

Sorry, I wasn’t specific enough with my last question. I’m trying to find out what the Health Board rules are regarding pets on restaurant or bar patios in Houston.

(f) Prohibiting animals.
(1) Except as specified in item (2) of this subsection, live animals may not be allowed on the premises of a food establishment.
(2) Live animals may be allowed in the following situations if the contamination of food, clean equipment, utensils, linens, and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles cannot result:
a. Edible fish or decorative fish in aquariums, shell fish or crustacea on ice or under refrigeration, and shellfish and crustacea in display tank systems;
b. Patrol dogs accompanying police or security officers in offices and dining, sales, and storage areas, and sentry dogs running loose in outside fenced areas;
c. In areas that are not used for food preparation and that are usually open for customers, such as dining and sales areas, service animals that are controlled by the individual with a disability, or service animals in training when accompanied by an approved trainer, if a health or safety hazard will not result from the presence or activities of the service animal;
d. Pets in the common dining areas of institutional care facilities such as nursing Homes, assisted living facilities, group homes, or residential care facilities at times other than during meals if:
[1] Effective partitioning and self-closing doors separate the common dining areas from food storage or food preparation areas;
[2] Condiments, equipment, and utensils are stored in enclosed cabinets or removed from the common dining areas when pets are present; and
[3] Dining areas including tables, counter tops, and similar surfaces are effectively cleaned before the next meal service; and
e. In areas that are not used for food preparation, storage, sales, display, or dining, in which there are caged animals or animals that are similarly confined, such as in a variety store that sells pets or a tourist park that displays animals.
(3) Live or dead fish bait may be stored if contamination of food, clean equipment, utensils, linens, and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles cannot result.
(Ord. No. 99-1346, § 1, 12-15-99; Ord. No. 07-1051, § 2(Exh. A), 9-12-07)

So the answer is no, pets are not allowed on the patios of restaurants or bars. But I have seen many people tie thier dogs to the railing on the outside of the patio and sit at one of the tables beside the railing.
